Two hulls, a wide deck, almost no roll: the catamaran is the boat of space. In the Aeolians you find it mostly for skippered day charters and for cruises of a few days, and it stays the most comfortable choice when there are many of you.

A catamaran is not the small RIB you drive for an afternoon. It is a large boat that takes experience to handle and moor, and so in the Aeolians it is found almost always in two formats: the skippered day charter, or the cruise of several days, where you sleep in the cabins and work round the archipelago at your own pace.
The reason is practical. Catamarans on charter here are few compared to the RIBs, they nearly all come with a crew, and in the high-season months they are booked weeks ahead for cruises. The plain single day on your own, easy to find for a RIB, is the exception on a catamaran, not the rule.
Why choose it

The two hulls cut the roll: on board you move as if on a terrace, and anyone prone to seasickness breathes easier. Ideal with children and with people not used to boats.
The deck is wide, there are more places to be, and the trampoline at the bow is the favourite spot for the sun. In numbers you do not step on each other's toes as on a single-hull boat.
On cruises the cabins are spread across the two hulls, so more private. Each couple or family has its own corner, harder to arrange on a single boat.
It draws less than a classic sailing boat, so it comes closer to the coves and anchors in shallow water where others cannot go. A real advantage among the coves of the Aeolians.
What it costs
For a week's cruise the average prices are there. The whole boat with a skipper runs from around 1,950 to 3,600 euro per week departing from Capo d'Orlando, the charter base with the most boats in the archipelago. Booking a single cabin in cabin charter you spend from around 690 to 850 euro per person for the week. The plain skippered single day, rarer, stays on request because availability shifts a lot with the season.
