A day among the coves
Seven to eight hours at sea to link what stays separate from land. From Lipari to green Salina, with a stop at Pollara and the small coves at Punta Lingua; heading west you skirt the obsidian flows all the way to Vulcano.
You choose the cove for a swim at the last minute, based on the day's wind rather than the map. You can drive yourself, on your own, with a dinghy within the limits that need no licence, or have a skipper on board who has read the Aeolian wind for years: you cover longer stretches and never think about the anchor.
Who it's for: anyone who wants the classic format and to link more than one island in a day, from first-timers to returning visitors.
The shared day tour is the cheapest way in. A dinghy with no licence at Lipari averages around 190 euro a day for the boat. Average market prices, they vary by season and availability.
You set off from Lipari, the base with the most operators, or from Vulcano for shorter routes.
